Reminder: Six guiding principles for HR leaders during the pandemic crisis

As HR and business leaders, you need to ensure that your team is safe and can deliver its work in the right conditions. The NeuroMindfulness® Institute team created a checklist that focuses on what to do in this uncomfortable situation, which we like.

After five months since the epidemy has started, the symptoms still exist, and every day you hear about new Covid-19 cases or a new vaccine that is getting better results. Moreover, in certain parts of the world, the epidemy sees its peaks and enforced severe travel restrictions.

We believe that this framework is an excellent reminder about how to think strategically about the covid 19 epidemy situation. Through the Institute, two passionate business executives aiming to inspire leaders to raise their consciousness level and make a positive difference in the world. They put toghether the principles and with their permission we're sharing them with you.

"An epidemic is the wrong time to discover our preparations have not been sufficient or that we have overlooked crucial components of the response." Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The framework is divided into six pillars, as follows:

  1. HELP EMPLOYEES FEEL SAFE
It is important to allow them to work from home if possible, confirm that you will continue to pay salaries Offer extra support for those vulnerable (e.g., single parents)
  2. ENCOURAGE THEM TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES AND FAMILY FIRST
If they have the space to take care of dear ones, they will focus more when they come back to work.
  3. ALLOW TIME FOR REFLECTION AND ADJUSTMENT
Don't overload them with training programs. Invite them to reflect on the new context and build daily routines. Help them understand the change curve and where they are.
  4. SHOW THAT YOU CARE
Put in place systems and processes to listen to employees' needs; don't make assumptions. Practice active listening. Ask for feedback, and show empathy.
  5. DON'T OVERLOAD THEM WITH INFORMATION
Don't overload them with webinars. There are already tons on the Internet. Communicate simple suggestions to move forward. Use simple/ clear language.
  6. TIME TO BRING TO LIFE THE COMPANY VALUES
Communicate decisions with clarity and care. Link your actions with company values. Explain the reason when you make difficult decisions.

If you enjoyed these principles, we recommend that you use them in your daily practices. And if you want to share them with your friends, we have a poster for you below.
